Choose Country

Express Entry

An online system managing skilled worker applications under three programs: Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Trades. Points-based (CRS). Candidates with the highest scores receive Invitations to Apply for PR. Category-based draws prioritize specific occupations.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

Each province selects immigrants based on its own criteria. Offers multiple streams—Skilled Worker, International Student, Employer Job Offer, and Business/Entrepreneur. A provincial nomination provides 600 additional CRS points or direct PR pathway.

Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)

Focused on four Atlantic provinces. Applicants must have a valid job offer from a designated employer and submit a settlement plan. Supports both international graduates and skilled workers. Requires proof of settlement funds and language proficiency.

Home Care Worker Pilot

Provides PR pathways for caregivers already working full-time in Canada. Requires work experience in child care or home support, language proficiency, and education. The stream for applicants outside Canada is currently closed.

Family Sponsorship (PGP, Spouse, Child)

Active PR stream for sponsoring close family members. Sponsors must meet income requirements and be Canadian citizens or PRs. 2025 PGP invitations opened in July.

The U.S. offers multiple immigration and investment-based visa options for professionals, investors, and families. Below is a summary of the currently active programs

ACTIVE U.S. IMMIGRATION PROGRAMS

1. Family-Based Immigration

Allows U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents to sponsor spouses, children, parents, and certain other relatives for permanent residence. Remains the most common route for Green Cards.

2. Employment-Based Immigration (EB Categories)

There are five employment-based categories (EB-1 to EB-5). These remain active and allocate about 140,000 visas annually. Includes professionals, skilled workers, researchers, and investors.

3. Diversity Visa Lottery (DV Program)

Annual lottery issuing up to 50,000 immigrant visas to nationals of countries with low U.S. immigration rates. Random selection and strict timelines.

4. Refugee / Asylee Programs

Active humanitarian pathways for individuals fleeing persecution or seeking asylum in the U.S.

5. EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program

Active and extended through September 30, 2027. Allows foreign investors to obtain permanent residence through investment and job creation.

ACTIVE U.S. INVESTMENT PROGRAMS

EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program

The EB-5 visa grants permanent residence to investors who invest in a U.S. commercial enterprise and create at least 10 full-time jobs for U.S. workers. The minimum investment is USD 1,050,000, or USD 800,000 if the business is located in a Targeted Employment Area (TEA). Applicants and their families (spouse and unmarried children under 21) receive conditional Green Cards for 2 years, after which they can file Form I-829 to remove conditions and obtain full permanent residence. Regional Centers streamline the process for passive investors. Program is valid until 2027 under the EB-5 Reform and Integrity Act.

E-2 Treaty Investor Visa

The E-2 visa allows nationals of treaty countries to live and work in the U.S. based on a substantial investment in a real, active U.S. business. There is no fixed minimum investment, but typically USD 100,000 or more is recommended. Applicants must own at least 50% of the business or hold a controlling role. The visa is non-immigrant but renewable indefinitely as long as the business remains active and profitable. Spouses can work freely, and children can study in the U.S. The E-2 is processed quickly and offers flexibility, though it does not directly lead to a Green Card unless the applicant later transitions to another category such as EB-5 or EB-1C.

Comparison: E-2 vs EB-5 Investor Programs

Feature E-2 Treaty Investor EB-5 Immigrant Investor
Type Non-immigrant (temporary, renewable) Immigrant (permanent residence)
Investment Amount Substantial (usually USD 100K–300K) USD 800K (TEA) or USD 1.05M (standard)
Job Creation Indirect/encouraged but flexible Must create at least 10 full-time U.S. jobs
Country Eligibility Treaty countries only All nationalities
Spouse/Dependents Spouse can work; children can study Full PR for spouse & children
Path to Green Card Indirect (must change visa type) Direct
Processing Time Few weeks to months 12–36 months

Summary: Both E-2 and EB-5 programs provide attractive routes for investors seeking U.S. residence or business expansion opportunities. E-2 is faster, renewable, and flexible but temporary. EB-5 leads to permanent residence but requires higher investment and strict job creation.
